Gloucestershire-based animal welfare charities have come together to support rescue animals and bring attention to the growing pressure faced by animal rescue centres in the UK. Naturewatch Foundation has announced that Teckels Animal Sanctuaries will be its official charity partner for the 2026 World Animal Day Donate a Dinner campaign.
The partnership was launched with a visit from Naturewatch Foundation CEO Sarah Carr and colleagues to Teckels Animal Sanctuaries, where they presented a donation of £100 – enough to provide a meal for each of the 42 dogs currently residing at the sanctuary. The visit shed light on the challenges faced by rescue organizations, including rising costs, increasing numbers of abandoned animals, and the consequences of irresponsible and illegal breeding.
During their visit, the Naturewatch team met with some of the animals currently awaiting adoption, including three Pomeranians who were rescued from a household with over 120 dogs. The team also met Apollo, a three-year-old Huntaway cross Husky who is also looking for his forever home.
World Animal Day, celebrated on October 4th each year, aims to improve the lives of animals by encouraging people to take action. Naturewatch Foundation coordinates the international movement and its annual Donate a Dinner campaign, which encourages people to support their local rescue centres by providing food for animals in their care.
Naturewatch Foundation CEO Sarah Carr expressed her delight in being able to support Teckels Animal Sanctuaries, a charity located in the same county as their headquarters. She hopes that by launching the project now, businesses, organizations, and community groups will be inspired to support their local animal shelters on October 4th.
Teckels Animal Sanctuaries’ Social Media Manager Chelsea Rogers expressed their gratitude for being chosen as the charity partner for Naturewatch Foundation’s Donate a Dinner campaign. She highlighted the increasing cost of living and the importance of support initiatives like this one in helping animal rescues. Rogers encouraged everyone to get involved and show their support for the campaign. She also thanked Naturewatch Foundation for their generous donation of £100, which will go towards feeding the rescued animals.
More information about how the public can get involved in this year’s Donate a Dinner campaign will be announced closer to October 4th. In the meantime, businesses, organizations, and community groups are encouraged to start planning how they can support their local rescue centre, whether it be through donations, fundraising, or purchasing much-needed supplies.
