Biofarm, the Leading Romanian Market Player, Joins Polpharma Group to Further Strengthen Presence in Central and Eastern Europe

Polpharma Group, a leading multinational pharmaceutical company based in Poland, has announced the successful acquisition of Romanian pharmaceutical company Biofarm. This strategic transaction is a significant move towards the Group’s expansion in Central and Eastern Europe, solidifying its position in the region and creating new opportunities to improve patients’ access to reliable medications.

According to Sebastian Szymanek, CEO of Polpharma Group, the acquisition of Biofarm is a testament to the company’s commitment to building a strong and diverse pharmaceutical organization. “We are a privately owned company with an entrepreneurial spirit, and this acquisition aligns with our long-term growth plans. Our focus has always been on meeting the needs of patients, and this move will allow us to continue doing so while also contributing to the improvement of pharmaceutical security in the region,” he says.

The combination of Polpharma Group and Biofarm will result in a wider portfolio of trusted products for patients, with Biofarm’s strong presence in Romania and Polpharma’s regional footprint serving as a platform for potential expansion into other markets.

Biofarm, with a history dating back to 1921, is a well-respected pharmaceutical manufacturer in Romania. The company owns two manufacturing facilities and exports its products to various countries in Europe and Asia. Its portfolio consists of over 200 products in various therapeutic areas.

Tamás Uri, General Manager of the CEE Region at Polpharma Group, believes that joining forces with Polpharma will bring new opportunities for Biofarm’s growth. “With the support of Polpharma’s experience, market knowledge, and resources, we will be able to further develop our product portfolio and explore new markets for Biofarm products. This will ultimately benefit both patients and our business partners,” he says.

Moving forward, the Group will focus on utilizing the synergies between the two organizations to enhance their competencies, expand their product portfolios, and ultimately provide greater value to patients and partners.
