Apple Unveils the Sophisticated Apple Watch Ultra 2

Last Updated on: 22nd November 2023, 11:54 am

Apple’s newest entrant in its high-tier wearable line, the Apple Watch Ultra 2, has been revealed. Although it retains a familiar aesthetic reminiscent of the inaugural Apple Watch Ultra, the real evolution lies beneath its sleek surface.

Drawing power from Apple’s latest S9 SiP, the same powerhouse seen in the Series 9, the Ultra 2 boasts a quad-core neural engine and an advanced second-generation ultra-wideband location chip. These enhancements translate into groundbreaking features, such as on-device Siri interactions – enabling access to health data – and supremely refined location pinpointing. Furthermore, the neural engine promises to augment dictation accuracy by a noteworthy 25%.

Externally, the watch is set to dazzle with a luminous display rated at an impressive 3,000 nits. This is a significant 50% leap from its predecessor, marking the brightest ever in Apple Watch history.

In terms of endurance, Apple pledges a commendable 72-hour battery lifespan in its energy-conserving mode. The watch also elevates its diving capabilities, functioning perfectly up to 40 meters deep, and its updated Depth app efficiently records each dive.

Yet, it’s not just about the hardware. The forthcoming watchOS 10 is set to redefine the user experience, introducing widgets, a fresh aesthetic for app icons, and pioneering navigation and cycling functionalities. The exclusive “Modular Ultra” watchface is designed to optimize the display’s periphery to exhibit live data such as altitude or depth metrics. Furthermore, a novel double-tap gesture is expected to streamline phone call operations for users.

Prospective customers can secure their Apple Watch Ultra 2 with preorders starting today at a price of $799, with shipping commencing on September 22nd. This grand unveiling took place at Cupertino’s Apple Park during the “Wonderlust” premiere event, where updates to the Apple Watch Series 9 and the more economical SE version were also spotlighted.
