“Unplug and Reconnect: Halton Offers Free Family Peace Retreat in August”

Local organisations, Fortuna Female Society and the Brianna Ghey Legacy Project, are coming together to host a day of wellbeing for families in the community. The event, titled the Family Peace Retreat, will take place on Sunday, 2nd August at St Marie’s Church in Widnes.

With the summer holidays in full swing, the two organisations saw an opportunity to provide families with a day to disconnect from their screens and spend quality time together. This free event is open to all, whether individuals come alone, with friends, or as a family.

The timing of the retreat is intentional, as the six-week school break can leave many parents feeling stretched and children spending more time than ever on their devices. The Family Peace Retreat offers a chance for families to slow down and engage in activities together.

This event builds on the previous collaboration between Fortuna Female Society and the Brianna Ghey Legacy Project. Earlier this year, the two organisations worked together to pilot a version of the Flourishing Families program, which consisted of six sessions for local mothers and female caregivers and their daughters through Fortuna Female Society’s Let Her Shine group. The Peace Retreat now opens up this approach to the wider community for a day.

Throughout the day, adults and teenagers can participate in various wellbeing activities in the tipi, including yoga, tai chi, breathwork, meditation, and sound baths, all led by local practitioners. Families will also have their own designated space for children’s yoga and tai chi, as well as Flourishing Families activities. The day will end with a family sound bath.

Founder of Fortuna Female Society, Laura Bevan, expressed her excitement about the event, stating, “We are really thrilled to be collaborating with The Brianna Ghey Legacy Project to bring the Peace Retreat to Halton. Both of our organisations share a passion for improving connection and wellbeing within the community, making this partnership a natural fit. Together, we are excited to offer families the opportunity to take some time out, slow down, and prioritize their wellbeing.”

Founder of The Brianna Ghey Legacy Project, Esther Ghey, also shared her enthusiasm for the event, saying, “I am incredibly proud that the Brianna Ghey Legacy Project is partnering with Fortuna Female Society for our first Peace Retreat. I am looking forward to seeing everyone there for a day of wellness and relaxation.”

Throughout the day, participants can also enjoy free taster treatments such as reflexology, Indian head massage, and hand massages. All sessions and activities will operate on a first come, first served basis, and food and refreshments will be available for purchase. The retreat will take place regardless of the weather, as all activities will be conducted under cover.

While tickets for the event are free, booking is essential. Interested individuals can reserve their spot through Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/peace-retreat-2026-tickets-1992410525516.
