The Duke of Edinburgh Appointed Royal Patron of the Ulysses Trust

Ulysses Trust Announces His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh as Royal Patron

London, Thursday 6 November, 2025 – The Ulysses Trust, a charity dedicated to fostering confidence, resilience, and self-awareness in young people through challenging expeditions, is proud to announce that His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has become its Royal Patron.

With a focus on members of the UK’s Volunteer Reserve and Cadet Forces, the Ulysses Trust provides funding and expert guidance for expeditions that develop leadership, teamwork, and core values such as courage, respect, and integrity. These experiences also equip young people with essential life skills, including resourcefulness, risk-awareness, and sound judgment.

The Trust is honored to welcome The Duke of Edinburgh as its Royal Patron. His Royal Highness brings a deep and longstanding commitment to the development of the Reserve and Cadet Forces, as well as a dedication to supporting young people in reaching their full potential. With many Ulysses Trust expeditions supporting participants of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), this new partnership is a natural alignment of shared values and goals to empower young people and build resilience through challenge and adventure.

Since its establishment in 1992, the Ulysses Trust has supported over 44,000 individuals on more than 3,100 expeditions. From grassroots DofE journeys in the UK to extraordinary feats such as crossing Antarctica, sailing the Atlantic, or summitting the world’s highest peaks, the Trust’s funding and guidance have been instrumental in providing young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with vital skills to become capable, confident, and employable members of society.

Brigadier Tim Seal TD DL VR, Chair of The Ulysses Trust, expressed his gratitude for The Duke of Edinburgh’s patronage, stating, “We are deeply honored to have His Royal Highness as our Royal Patron. His advocacy for youth development and his close connection with the Cadet Forces and Reserve community reflect the very heart of our work. His patronage will be a source of immense inspiration for the young people we support and a powerful endorsement of the life-changing impact of adventurous activity.”

This partnership with The Duke of Edinburgh underscores his ongoing efforts to support young people and promote service, skills, and resilience – values that are central to the Trust’s mission.
