Bielefeld, Germany – The city’s iconic Hermannsdenkmal statue has received a bold makeover thanks to Schüco, a leading company in windows, doors, and façades. In celebration of DSC Arminia Bielefeld’s historic achievement in reaching the final of the German Cup, Schüco has outfitted the statue in the football team’s jersey. This gesture serves as a gift to all the loyal fans who have supported the team throughout their journey.
The monumental event marks the first time in the club’s 120-year history that Arminia Bielefeld has reached the final of the German Cup. As a third division team, their success in the semi-final against reigning Bundesliga champions and German Cup holders, Bayer Leverkusen, has gained international attention. An AI-generated image of Hermannsdenkmal wearing the Arminia Bielefeld jersey went viral, sparking excitement and anticipation for the upcoming final.
In recognition of the team’s exceptional performance, Schüco, the main sponsor of Arminia Bielefeld, quickly turned the AI image into a reality. The football club is named after the historical figure of Arminius, in whose memory Hermannsdenkmal was built. It was only 44 days after the semi-final that the plan came to fruition. The team’s jersey, measuring 9 meters long and 7.2 meters wide, was made from 130 m2 of flag fabric.
On May 24, DSC Arminia Bielefeld will face off against Bundesliga team VfB Stuttgart at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. The towering figure of “Hermann” will serve as the twelfth man behind the team, providing support and inspiration as they strive for victory in the final.
