No WynterCon in Eastbourne Scheduled for 2024

Eastbourne’s renowned annual fundraiser, WynterCon, has had to move away from its home of ten years due to a 58% increase in venue costs for 2023 and a further 33% hike for 2024. This move, which will have a profound impact on Eastbourne’s economy, has come as a result of an inability to meet the almost £25k in venue fees.

The decision to relocate was not taken lightly, but with the help and enthusiasm of East Sussex College – Hastings Station Plaza Campus, the event’s eleventh year will be held at the modern campus.

Mr WynterCon, the event organiser, said: “Our tough decision to relocate for WynterCon XI was driven primarily by the unsustainable increases in our venue costs. Despite our best efforts to negotiate over the last two months, the increase in hire fees stood firm. Change is an integral part of growth, and WynterCon is no exception. As we embark on this new chapter, we’re cognisant of the mixed emotions it may bring. However, we also see this as an opportunity to welcome new faces in Hastings, broadening our community. We’re excited about what lies ahead and are committed to making 2024 a truly memorable year.”

The move of WynterCon, a key component of Eastbourne’s cultural scene for over ten years, will see the loss of over 800-night hotel stays usually secured during the off-season event. Nevertheless, the event organisers remain hopeful for the future, looking forward to new opportunities and successes in the eleventh year of the event.
