“New Short Course on Gin Production Now Offered by The Institute of Brewing and Distilling”

IBD Launches New On-Demand Technical Course on Gin Production

London, UK – The Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD), a leading provider of technical education in the distilling industry, has announced the launch of a new self-assessed and on-demand technical course on Gin Production.

The Gin Production course is the latest addition to the IBD’s popular series of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) short courses for distillers. It is designed for distillers of all levels, from small-scale producers to large distilleries, who are looking to produce exceptional gin consistently and cost-effectively.

The course covers essential knowledge and best practices for gin production at a commercial scale. It delves into the world of gin botanicals and the role of neutral spirit in creating a high-quality gin. It also provides a comprehensive review of the current understanding of gin flavor and the methods and technologies that can be used to optimize it in the distillery. Additionally, the course offers guidance on assessing and analyzing gin and its ingredients.

The Gin Production course has been developed in collaboration with leading distillers and spirits experts, including Kirsty Black (Master Distiller at Arbikie Distillery), Chris Hepple (Head of Operations at Hepple Spirits Company), and Meeghan Murdock (Distiller and Spirits Consultant).

Stuart Howe, Technical and Development Manager at IBD, commented on the launch of the new course, stating: “This is the world’s first course providing in-depth scientific and technical information specifically about gin production. It is written in collaboration with experts in the field and with the technical rigor and accuracy that you expect from the IBD. If you want to optimize your gin production process or add a brilliant gin to your product portfolio, then this is the course for you!”

The course features a downloadable PDF with technical information, including a summary of key points, descriptors of important flavor compounds, and key calculations for gin production. It also includes an overview of stills and their operation, as well as guidance on structured gin recipe development.

The course utilizes a variety of learning tools, such as text, videos, animations, quizzes, and online games, to enhance the learning experience. Upon completion, learners will receive a Certificate of Completion.
