Bron Yr Aur Micronation, a global and borderless micronation rooted in Wales, has announced the formation of its first international Creative Collective. After an extensive international search, 11 extraordinary creators from around the world have been selected to become Founding Citizens and form the Collective.
The selected members come from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, including writers, visual artists, musicians, poets, makers, and multidisciplinary creatives from Wales, England, Italy, Iran, and the United States. The search for members went beyond just the applications received, with Bron Yr Aur Micronation actively exploring creative communities, social platforms, and independent work across the globe. The chosen members all share a belief in the power of creativity to connect, inspire, and bring people together.
This announcement marks a significant milestone for Bron Yr Aur Micronation, as it now has 50 Founding Citizens on its way to reaching 100 and declaring its formal independence. The micronation is dedicated to exploring new ways of building countries and communities based on participation, inclusivity, and peace. Its three founding pillars are Creativity, Sustainability, and Well-being.
For Bron Yr Aur Micronation, creativity is not an afterthought but an integral part of nation-building. This idea is reflected in the micronation’s Ministry of Culture, Heritage & Creative Well-being, established by Chief Visionary Boohai and Ambassador of Culture Heledd Wyn. Wyn, a Welsh filmmaker, director, visual artist, and Future Wales Fellow, has written the micronation’s draft Culture Policy and Cultural Manifesto, which will guide its cultural life as it develops. Her work explores ecological processes, landscape, cultural memory, and environmental transformation, and she is also committed to sustainable cultural practices.
The Cultural Manifesto emphasizes the importance of culture being lived rather than just consumed, declaring that imagination is a civic necessity and that small nations can dream big futures. It also embodies the idea that culture is a bridge between peoples, not a border. This idea is at the heart of the newly formed international Creative Collective.
Chief Visionary Boohai explains, “We didn’t want to simply put out an application form and choose from whoever came to us. We went looking; we explored the work of people around the world because creativity has this extraordinary ability to travel across borders, cultures, and languages.”
The Founding Creative Collective consists of Chance McCoy, NÓWNØIS, Andy Wickett, Maya Jordon, Daisy Buckle, Kazem Ostadali, Eddy Dyer, Grace Carrol, Siro Carraro, Alys Hardy, and Raji Malik. Each member brings a unique perspective and talent to the Collective, ranging from Grammy-winning Appalachian musician to visual artist and musical healer.
Bron Yr Aur Micronation’s mission is to create a global community that celebrates creativity, sustainability, and well-being. To learn more about its work and the Creative Collective, visit their website at www.bronyraur.com.
