“Renowned businessman and philanthropist, Ram Gidoomal CBE, has released his captivating autobiography, My Silk Road: The Adventures and Struggles of a British Asian Refugee, in audio format. The book, which has previously sold out in both hardback and paperback editions, chronicles Gidoomal’s journey from a privileged upbringing in Mombasa to becoming a refugee and ultimately finding success and purpose in life.
Born into a wealthy family that had fled British India during the partition of India and Pakistan, Gidoomal’s early life seemed charmed. However, a second deportation from Kenya to the UK changed the course of his life. Despite facing numerous challenges, Gidoomal persevered and eventually regained his wealth and reputation. However, a life-changing trip to Mumbai in his late thirties transformed him into someone who prioritized giving back to society.
In My Silk Road, Gidoomal shares inspiring stories of overcoming obstacles with a can-do attitude, generosity, and prioritizing relationships. With endorsements from notable figures such as entrepreneur Ramola Bachchan and Vice-Admiral Sir Adrian Johns, the book has been described as “fascinating,” “inspiring and courageous,” and “extraordinary.”
The author, Ram Gidoomal, CBE, has over 30 years of experience in the private, public, and voluntary sectors. He is currently the Chair of SHEIN’s External ESG Advisory Board, and has also held positions as Chairman of CottonConnect Ltd, Traidcraft plc, and the London Sustainability Exchange.
