Vyoma’s inaugural satellite for Space Domain Awareness successfully enters orbit

On Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, Munich-based company Vyoma announced the successful launch of its pioneering surveillance satellite, Flamingo-1. The satellite was launched on Sunday, January 11th, from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA. It was launched aboard the Twilight rideshare mission with SpaceX, via Germany-based launch integrator Exolaunch. This marks a significant achievement for the company, which holds a patent for its optimized Space Domain Awareness (SDA) mission.

Flamingo-1 is equipped with an advanced optical sensor for space-based surveillance and will be a gamechanger for Europe, strengthening SDA efforts directly from orbit. The satellite will be able to detect, track, and characterize space objects such as debris and other satellites. This will enable Vyoma and its customers to closely monitor maneuvering objects and gain insight into the actions and behaviors of other satellites.

Vyoma’s second satellite, Flamingo-2, is currently in production and is expected to launch by the end of 2026. The remaining satellites of Vyoma’s constellation will be deployed by 2029. Together, the Flamingo constellation will provide real-time updates on objects of interest and significantly increase domain awareness in space. The data collected from these satellites will also allow Vyoma to create its own proprietary catalogue of space objects.

These missions represent a significant step forward in advancing space technologies that align with European strategic and security goals.

Vyoma, founded in August 2020, is a Munich-based company that leverages ground-based and space-based data to improve automated satellite operations and increase domain awareness in space. The company is a participant in the EU Commission and ESA programs for SDA technology development.
