/Cyber Threat Analysis Reveals Surge in Attack Attempts on UK Businesses
– Beaming’s latest report shows a record high of cyberattack attempts in Q3 2026.
– Businesses faced an average of over 2,200 threats daily, primarily targeting remote control services.
– The analysis emphasizes the need for a review of security measures during Cyber Security Awareness Month.
– A significant rise in attack sources identified from Brazil highlights evolving threats.
UK businesses are facing unprecedented cyber threats, with Beaming’s latest Cyber Threat Analysis revealing an average of 203,585 detected cyberattack attempts per monitored organization between July and September 2026. This figure marks a notable 7.0% increase compared to the same period last year and 6.7% higher than the previous quarter, translating to an average of 2,213 attempts each day.
This report, released in conjunction with Cyber Security Awareness Month, highlights the critical importance of consistent system evaluations to safeguard business operations and customer interactions.
Beaming is urging business leaders, directors, and IT teams to re-evaluate their cybersecurity measures, especially in light of changes in personnel, supplier relationships, or system deployments.
Remote Control Services Most Targeted
Among the service categories analyzed, remote control services emerged as the most frequently targeted. These services, essential for managing web-connected devices like security cameras and building control systems, faced an alarming average of roughly 193 cyberattack attempts per business daily. Following closely, web services—which encompass websites, customer portals, and online equipment management interfaces—also indicated a need for bolstered protection.
Beaming recommends that businesses collaborate closely with their IT teams or service providers to determine which devices and online services necessitate internet accessibility, review access permissions for employees and suppliers, and eliminate any unnecessary remote access. It is also crucial to restrict administrative functions and ensure that all software remains current and supported.
Significant Surge in Attack Sources from Brazil
The report also noted a concerning 47.7% rise in unique source IP addresses linked to cyberattack infrastructure in Brazil, increasing from 19,849 in Q2 to 29,312 in Q3. While Brazil saw a marked increase, the data indicated that China and the USA remained the primary sources of cyberattacks within the ten-country comparison group tracked by Beaming, pointing to a complex global threat landscape.
Sonia Blizzard, Managing Director of Beaming, emphasized the need for proactive cybersecurity measures: “Good cyber security needs to keep pace with the way your business works. When people join or leave, suppliers need access, or new systems are introduced, it is worth checking that permissions and protection still fit. These figures are a useful prompt to have that conversation with your IT team or provider. Keeping systems up to date, reviewing access, and testing recovery arrangements helps businesses prepare, while allowing their people to get on with their work.”
Practical Guidance for Strengthening Cyber Resilience
To boost their resilience against evolving cyber threats, Beaming advises business leaders to undertake the following steps with their IT teams or providers:
– Ensure systems are supported and updated, confirming that operating systems, applications, routers, and firewalls receive timely security updates, while replacing or upgrading outdated technology.
– Review firewall settings and remote access to eliminate unnecessary permissions, implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA) for enhanced protection on remote access and other business accounts.
– Evaluate incident response and recovery protocols, coordinating responsibilities for monitoring security alerts, updating escalation contacts, and testing the restoration of backups.
