Sky Medical Technology Ltd, parent company of Firstkind Ltd, has confirmed that the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) Hospital has adopted the geko® device as part of its standard physiotherapy care in both neurological and orthopaedic rehabilitation.
The device is now in widespread use across BMC hospitals, having shown strong results when used alongside conventional therapies. It is being utilised to treat post-stroke spasticity and improve mobility, as well as to manage oedema in patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery or suffering orthopaedic trauma. Moreover, its application plays a key role in DVT prevention for patients at risk due to immobility.
The geko® device is a small, self-adhesive, wearable neuromuscular electro-stimulator that is applied to the surface of the skin just below the knee, over the head of the fibula bone. It delivers a gentle electrical pulse, once per second, to the common peroneal nerve, activating the calf and foot muscle pumps, increasing venous, arterial, and microcirculatory blood flow at a rate equal to 60% of walking, effectively replicating the effects of exercise.
