The Golf Ball Revolution: A Game-Changing Transformation

On Monday, July 21, 2025, a major announcement was made in the golfing world. OnCore Innovations, a US-based company known for their patented hollow-core golf balls, has acquired WAMP, a fast-growing golf app from Belgium. This acquisition is set to revolutionize the game of golf, as the two companies join forces to create a connected golf experience like never before.

The GENIUS smart ball, developed by OnCore, is equipped with a wireless-charging sensor stack that includes an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and antenna. These features allow the ball to track every putt, drive, and spin in real-time. But it is not just the hardware that makes this ball a game-changer, it is the software developed by WAMP.

WAMP, founded by brothers Thomas Pieters, a professional golfer, and Pieter-Jan Pieters, a tech entrepreneur, is a platform that gamifies golf. With over 10,000 users in Europe, WAMP has helped players organize tournaments, compete in challenges, and track their progress together. With this acquisition, WAMP’s platform will become the user experience behind the GENIUS ball.

According to Lode Roovers, partner at New Game Plan and strategic investor in WAMP, “OnCore didn’t just acquire an app – they acquired a platform, a brand, and a European launchpad.” This sentiment is shared by OnCore’s CEO Keith Blakely, who sees WAMP’s technology as the perfect complement to their hardware. “We’re not just creating a smart ball – we’re creating a smart game. That means community, competitions, coaching insights, and data-driven fun. WAMP gives us a head start,” he said.

The first launch of GENIUS, which will focus on putting accuracy and analytics, is scheduled for Q4 2025. Future iterations will expand to full-course play, gamified scoring, and simulator-like experiences, all enabled by WAMP’s community infrastructure.

In addition to enhancing their product, this acquisition also strengthens OnCore’s presence in Europe, with Thomas Pieters joining as a global ambassador and strategic voice for the brand. “Putting is 40% of golf, yet it’s where technology has lagged the most,” said Pieters. “GENIUS will change how players train, compete, and improve – from amateurs to tour players.”

OnCore, backed by investors including Charles Schwab, Josh Allen, and Harold Varner III, is now seeking an additional $10-20 million in funding to scale production, distribution, and adoption of the GENIUS ecosystem. Investment opportunities can be found at https://geniusball.golf/regd.
