Submit Your Youth Hero Nominations for the Better Tomorrows Awards

Youth workers, youth projects, and young volunteers in Cumbria will soon have a chance to be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community. The inaugural Better Tomorrows Awards 2025, set to take place on November 12th at the Carlisle Youth Zone, will honor individuals and projects that have made a positive impact on the lives of young people.

The Better Tomorrows Celebration Event, which brings together youth workers, young people, funders, and community organizations, will serve as the platform for announcing the winners of three categories: Youth Worker of the Year, Youth Project of the Year, and Young Volunteer of the Year. Nominations for these awards are now open.

Launched in 2021, the Better Tomorrows program has a mission to increase access to quality youth work in Cumbria and train more youth workers. David Beeby, Chair of Cumbria Community Foundation and founder of Better Tomorrows, is excited to recognize the impact of the program through these awards.

According to Beeby, “The feedback we have received from the newly trained youth workers, the young people they support, and the organizations they work in has shown us that Better Tomorrows is making a significant difference across the county. These awards are an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible work happening in our communities, both paid and voluntary, to support and inspire young people.”

Better Tomorrows has already trained over 50 accredited youth workers, funded 50 new youth work roles, and engaged over 5,000 young people in Cumbria. The program also offers multi-year grants of up to £75,000 to community organizations that create or provide new youth work opportunities for local youth.

The program has received support from more than 50 funders, including Cumbria Community Foundation, Francis Scott Trust, Four Acre Trust, Nuclear Waste Services, local businesses, and the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.

A panel of young people will judge the Better Tomorrows Awards, with a shortlist chosen from public nominations. Nominations can be submitted online through the Cumbria Community Foundation website until September 30th.
