Carlisle and its surrounding rural areas will soon have a better understanding of their community’s social needs and challenges. The Cumbria Community Foundation has commissioned a new report, “Carlisle: Opportunities and Challenges,” which will be launched on Wednesday, June 18th at 6:30pm.

The report, based on extensive independent research and interviews, covers a wide range of topics including employment and skills, health and wellbeing, and ageing well. With input from over 400 survey respondents, the report aims to highlight existing efforts to address disadvantage and identify opportunities for community growth and development.

This report follows similar ones produced by the Foundation since 2017, with a focus on the entire county and specific areas such as West Cumbria and Furness. The steering group responsible for the report’s production was led by Kevin Walsh, Vice Chair of Cumbria Community Foundation, and made up of local residents to ensure the report accurately reflects the needs and priorities of the Carlisle area.

“We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the production of this report, which captures the views and voices of hundreds of local people and combines them with the latest statistics,” said Walsh. “We believe the findings will be of great interest to community groups, businesses, and individuals, and will serve as a point of discussion and action to make Carlisle and the surrounding area an even better place to live.”

The launch event will be held online and is open to all, with registration available at https://register.enthuse.com/ps/event/OnlineLaunchCarlisleOpportunitiesandChallengesReport.

The production of this report was made possible by funding from a variety of sources, including former local authorities, the Riverside Group, Kingmoor Park, and Sellafield Ltd. It will be distributed by https://pressat.co.uk/.
