Paralympian Leads Coast-to-Coast Fundraiser Backed by Purdie Worldwide

Last Updated on: 19th June 2025, 06:59 pm

This July, Purdie Worldwide Removals and Storage will once again demonstrate its commitment to community support through a remarkable charity challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

On Saturday, 5th July, a small but determined team will cycle 55 kilometres from coast to coast across Scotland, led by Paralympic Gold medallist Nathan Macqueen MBE. The route follows the scenic Forth & Clyde canal, beginning at Bowling Basin in the west at 10am and finishing at the sealock near the Kelpies around 4pm. The entire event will be broadcast live on the Purdie Worldwide Facebook page.

This year’s challenge holds particular meaning, as Nathan will undertake the route on a hand bike, loaned by Albion Mobility. His participation reflects the resilience and focus that made him a champion in archery at the highest level. Prior to the accident that changed his life at 18, Nathan was a rising rugby star, playing for the Glasgow Warriors U21s. He now applies that same competitive drive to sport and charitable causes.

The team taking part includes Nathan’s wife Tara Macqueen, Mark Scoular and James Dunlop from Purdie Worldwide, as well as Matthew Prince of Alpine Studios. Their aim is to raise awareness and essential funds for people affected by cancer, inspiring others with their determination.

Providing technical backup on the day will be Robert from Scot Cycles, who will shadow the group to ensure any mechanical issues are swiftly resolved.

“This challenge is about pushing boundaries, raising money, and showing what’s possible with teamwork and determination,” said Nathan Macqueen. “It’s a privilege to be part of something that supports such an important cause.”

Macmillan Cancer Support remains a deeply valued cause for the Purdie team, who have already raised more than £10,000 through previous efforts.
