OF DOMESTIC ABUSE New App “We Are OK” Released to Aid Male Survivors of Domestic Violence

We Are Survivors, a leading charity based in Greater Manchester, has recently launched the newest edition of their Beyond the Silence magazine. Along with this release, the organization is also proud to announce the launch of their new App, WE ARE OK, which aims to increase access to support for male victims and survivors of sexual harm.

The App, now live and available for download on the App Store and Google Play, is based on the popular OK+ platform but has been specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of male victims and survivors. The development of the App was informed by the feedback and input of men who have used We Are Survivors’ services.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of We Are Survivors, Duncan Craig OBE, expressed his excitement for the launch of the App, stating, “It feels like such a full circle moment in launching this app. When I first spoke out about the sexual abuse I experienced, there was no support here in Greater Manchester for men and so I found my support online.” Craig also reflected on the evolution of the organization, which has grown to become the largest male survivor organization in the UK, serving over 2,500 men face-to-face every year.

The launch of the App coincides with the release of the latest edition of Beyond the Silence, the organization’s quarterly magazine. This edition, titled “AI Special,” features content generated by artificial intelligence, with a badge to indicate which sections were created by humans. Grahame Robertson, Editor and Senior Design and Communications Co-Ordinator for We Are Survivors, shared his experience working on the magazine, stating, “It’s been really strange working on this edition of the magazine. It really does feel like AI and technology supported design is revolutionising the industry.”

Beyond the Silence also features news on the NHS’s move towards digitalization and raises awareness of Greater Manchester as the location for the first conviction of possession of AI-generated indecent images. The issue also includes a feature on We Are Survivors Ambassador and Hollyoaks actor James Sutton’s foray into AI and tech, as well as the final installment of a 4-part series on the history of the organization for its 16th anniversary.

The organization is encouraging all male victims and survivors to download the App by searching “We Are OK” on the App Store or Google Play. Through this new platform, We Are Survivors continues to provide support and raise awareness for those affected by sexual harm.
