Hope Spring, a charity based in Herefordshire, has announced the successful completion of a clean water project in Olambe, a community in the Ifo Local Government Area in southwestern Nigeria. The project officially began on November 12th, 2025 and is expected to provide reliable access to safe water for over 400 families, addressing a long-standing challenge in the region.
Olambe, one of the largest communities in the Ifo LGA, has long struggled with water scarcity. Residents have been forced to rely on a single paid water source that was often insufficient, expensive, and difficult for vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and physically challenged, to access. This lack of reliable water has had a significant impact on health, education, and daily life, with residents spending hours fetching water and facing increased exposure to waterborne diseases.
Businesses of all sizes can support initiatives like this by sending Business Christmas charity eCards to their staff, colleagues, or customers. Not only does this allow organizations to mark special occasions, but it also contributes to projects that provide clean, safe water to communities in need, ensuring their support has a tangible and long-lasting impact.
The Olambe Borehole Project offers a sustainable solution by installing a deep borehole with a durable submersible pump, a 1,500-liter elevated storage tank, and strategically placed ground-level and elevated taps for easy access by all households. The project was planned and executed with a focus on community needs, geological suitability, and long-term sustainability.
Balogun Hameedat Shade, who supervised the project, emphasized the community-centered approach:
“Every stage of this project was carefully coordinated to ensure that the borehole would reliably serve the Olambe community for years to come. Seeing the residents access clean water safely and efficiently is a reminder of the profound impact that well-planned interventions can have on daily life.”
Funding for the project was made possible through the generosity of supporters, including contributions via Hope Spring eCards and donations from their water charity donation page. These contributions directly enable the delivery of clean water to underserved communities, transforming lives and improving public health.
The handover of the borehole on November 30th, 2025 marks a significant milestone in Hope Spring’s mission to alleviate water poverty across Nigeria and beyond. The charity remains dedicated to delivering sustainable water solutions, improving quality of life, and empowering communities to thrive.
