Cardiff has been named as the safest city for drivers in the UK, according to data and claims from Marshmallow Car Insurance. The insurance company analyzed over 500,000 data points, including claims, accidents, and police attendance, to determine the safety score for each postcode area.
Out of the top ten areas with the highest safety scores, three were located in Wales and Scotland. Cardiff, Aberdeen, and Motherwell took the top three spots, with Marshmallow’s analysis showing that drivers in these cities had the lowest claim rate per 1,000 policies and police collision rate.
Oliver Kent-Braham, Co-CEO of Marshmallow, stated that it is important to look beyond raw accident totals and take into account factors like claim rates and collision rates adjusted for local car ownership. He also mentioned that Marshmallow recognizes and rewards safe drivers, regardless of their location, and offers telematics car insurance to provide feedback on driving performance and encourage safe driving habits.
The analysis also showed that Scottish postcode areas had the highest average safety score of 95.3, followed by Wales with a score of 80.3. In comparison, London had the lowest average safety score of 30.5.
