Sligo University Hospital (SUH) has recently implemented a new intelligent parking management system, resulting in significant improvements in traffic flow and visitor satisfaction. The system, developed by British access control solutions provider Nortech Control Systems Ltd, has effectively eliminated parking-related congestion issues and improved overall operational efficiency.
SUH, part of the Saolta University Health Care Group and serving over 200,000 people across four counties, faced critical parking management challenges due to high traffic volumes. This resulted in multiple car parks reaching capacity and visitors circling aimlessly in search of available spaces, causing internal traffic congestion and impacting patient punctuality.
The NorParc intelligent parking management system, developed by Nortech, utilises NCT200 controllers and RGB-LED Variable Message Signs (VMS) to provide real-time occupancy tracking and dynamic guidance to available parking spaces. The implementation was made possible through strategic partnerships with National Automation | FAAC Ireland and local system integrator Power Right Fire, Energy & Security.
Since its deployment, the system has shown measurable results, including the elimination of traffic congestion caused by circling vehicles, improved visitor satisfaction through clear real-time parking guidance, and reduced internal hospital congestion.
