Life-Altering Effects of Chilterns Neuro Centre Support Revealed in Recent Survey

New survey highlights the invaluable impact of Chilterns Neuro Centre on the local community
Tuesday 27 January, 2026 – A recent survey conducted by the Chilterns Neuro Centre has shed light on the significant and often life-changing difference the charity makes for individuals affected by neurological conditions in the local community.

The survey, which had nearly 300 participants, representing almost one-third of the Centre’s total membership, revealed that an overwhelming 99 percent of respondents would recommend the Centre to someone with a neurological condition or their caregiver. Additionally, the majority of respondents expressed a high likelihood of recommending the Centre.

Based in Wendover, the Chilterns Neuro Centre is a charity that offers a wide range of treatments and services to individuals affected by MS, Parkinson’s, and strokes, as well as their families. These services are provided free of charge, with the exception of a nominal annual membership fee of £35. However, as a charity, the Centre relies heavily on the generosity of individuals and organizations within the community to continue its vital services.

The survey also highlighted the Centre’s unique role in filling gaps in statutory health and social care provision, with 95 percent of respondents stating that the Centre provides services that are not available elsewhere.

The results of the survey further demonstrated the crucial role the Centre’s specialist services play in helping individuals manage the long-term impact of conditions such as MS, Parkinson’s, and stroke. The most frequently accessed services included exercise classes, one-to-one physiotherapy, and courses and workshops, highlighting the importance of ongoing, specialized physical support for those living with these conditions.

Members also reported significant improvements in their health and wellbeing, with almost nine in ten stating that the treatment and support they receive helps improve their physical health, mental health, and symptom management. Furthermore, the Centre was credited with helping members maintain their independence in daily activities and increasing social contact, reducing feelings of loneliness.

The survey also commended the Centre’s staff for their compassion and professionalism, with 88 percent of respondents rating their support and friendliness as excellent, and an additional 11 percent rating it as good.

The impactful comments left by members further illustrate the profound difference the Centre makes in their lives. One member simply described it as “my lifeline,” while another expressed, “After my diagnosis, I felt very isolated and alone, but the Centre has given me hope again.” Many others spoke of feeling understood, supported, and part of a community where their condition does not need to be explained.

Richard Parkin, Chief Executive of the Chilterns Neuro Centre, stated, “These results demonstrate the essential role the Centre plays in the lives of so many people with neurological conditions and their families. We are incredibly proud of the impact our staff, volunteers, and supporters make every day, providing specialized support, companionship, and hope in a safe and welcoming environment.”

If you or someone you know has MS, Parkinson’s, or has experienced a stroke, the Chilterns Neuro Centre is available to help. To learn more about their services and how to get involved, please call 01296 696133.
