Krombacher Releases Newest Sustainability Factsheet

Krombach, Germany – Today, Krombacher, Germany’s leading private brewery and the country’s No.1 beer brand, released its latest Sustainability Factsheet. This publication provides a transparent overview of the brewery’s progress and priorities for the 2024 financial year, reaffirming their commitment to responsible business practices and environmental protection.

For over 20 years, Krombacher has been guided by their core principle of “To the good of people and nature.” This mindset influences all aspects of their business, from sourcing and production to community engagement, making sustainability an integral part of their operations and future plans.

The recently published factsheet highlights significant progress made in key sustainability areas. Since 2019, Krombacher has reduced its CO₂ emissions by nearly 30%, and continues to strive towards their goal of achieving climate-neutral production. The brewery is also expanding its use of renewable energy through photovoltaic and wind projects, reducing their dependence on fossil fuels and supporting long-term decarbonization efforts.

Krombacher is also committed to strengthening circular systems throughout their operations, achieving a remarkable 99% recycling rate and utilizing reusable packaging. In addition, raw materials are responsibly sourced from the region, with barley coming from Germany and neighboring countries to ensure quality and traceability.

Water efficiency remains another top priority for Krombacher, with the brewery currently using only 3.9 liters of water per liter of beer produced, well below the industry average. They continue to invest in modern systems to further reduce water consumption.

In addition to their focus on sustainability, Krombacher also supports various environmental and social initiatives. In 2024, the brewery planted 400,000 trees in North Rhine-Westphalia and advanced their rainforest protection program in Africa. They also provided support to 100 charitable organizations across Germany. In Kenya and Malawi, Krombacher’s drinking water projects have provided reliable access to clean water, improving daily living conditions for local communities.

Wolfgang Schötz, Chief Sustainability Officer at Krombacher, states, “For us, sustainability is not a goal to be achieved, but a continuous journey. We are committed to taking responsibility, seizing opportunities, and actively shaping a better future for people and nature alike.”

Moving forward, Krombacher plans to continue investing in renewable energy and launch one of their most ambitious reforestation projects to date. The goal is to plant one million trees, primarily in the region surrounding the brewery, to strengthen local ecosystems and protect natural water resources.
