The Hope Foundation for Street Children (HOPE) has recently received a generous grant of £45,451 from the John Lewis Partnership Foundation. The funding will be used to support one of HOPE’s vital educational initiatives in Kolkata, India.
This initiative will directly benefit 509 children with special needs who are living on the streets and in the slums of Kolkata. The grant will provide these vulnerable children with access to life-changing education and skills training, with the goal of enhancing their employability and helping them build dignified, independent lives.
Over the course of two years, the funding will cover the operational costs of the project, including providing specialist equipment for four dedicated Resource Centres, investing in Functional Development Skills training and equipment for ten centres, and offering therapeutic support. It will also focus on creating awareness and establishing self-help groups for children, parents, and the community to share knowledge and skills.
The project has four key objectives: improving employment opportunities for children with special needs, providing tailored education through a customized curriculum, promoting functional independence through targeted therapies, and empowering communities by raising awareness and providing training on early intervention and access to essential services.
