Introducing the Spanish Version of the IBD General Certificate in Distilling

The Institute of Brewing & Distilling (IBD) has announced the launch of a new General Certificate in Distilling in Spanish, demonstrating their commitment to the Spanish-speaking distilling community. The IBD, a leading educational charity, is renowned for providing the most recognized and prestigious brewing and distilling certifications globally.

The self-directed, interactive online course is recommended for distilling professionals who are currently working in production but lack the necessary technical foundation to advance their careers. The learning materials and examination will be entirely in Spanish, allowing candidates to gain a thorough understanding of the distilling process and consistently produce high-quality products.

The General Certificate in Distilling covers all key aspects of the distilling process and is designed for both senior operators and team leaders in large production plants, as well as professionals in smaller distilleries. The course is offered online and includes 60-80 hours of study, providing a comprehensive understanding of the science and technology of distillation.

The culmination of the General Certificate in Distilling is a twice-yearly exam, held in March and October, with thousands of professionals from around the world preparing for the certificate each year. This certification opens new opportunities for career advancement and professional growth within the industry.

Since 2020, the IBD has been conducting their General Certificate exams online and proctored, making the examination process more convenient for professionals and their distilleries.

Tom Shelston, Chief Executive Officer of the IBD, expressed the organization’s passion and dedication to supporting professionals in advancing their skills. “Our qualification is one-of-a-kind in the industry and covers all key aspects of the distilling process, from raw material processing to maturation, quality control and more. We believe that this qualification, with its training in the science, technology, best practice of distilling and other areas vital to successful distilling operations, will support you in standing out in the industry.”

Ricardo Solis, IBD Learning Partner for Ibero-America, shared his excitement about the launch of the General Certificate in Distilling in Spanish. “I have been following the IBD for years and it has helped me enormously in my career as a professional. That’s why I decided to join the IBD. It is an honour for me to be able to help Spanish-speaking brewers and distillers to train methodically, differentiate themselves through their technical training and achieve consistent quality products.”

The IBD, established in London in 1886 as The Laboratory Club, is a global institution with over 3000 members worldwide. Their certifications are recognized and respected around the world, with more than 100,000 professionals from 90 countries trained by the IBD since the 1950s.
