INTERSPORT Austria has announced a strategic acquisition that strengthens its market position in Central Europe. The company has acquired the INTERSPORT Slovenia Group, which is headquartered in Slovenia and has a strong retail network spanning eight countries in Southeast Europe. This move expands INTERSPORT Austria’s reach to over 500 locations in twelve countries, with external sales of around €1 billion.
“This acquisition is a strategic milestone for INTERSPORT Austria,” says Franz Koll, CEO of INTERSPORT Austria. “Not only does it solidify our presence in the European sporting goods retail market, but it also creates synergies in procurement, digitalization, and logistics. In a time when size, strength, and expertise are crucial for a company’s market position, we are sending a strong signal for the years ahead.”
INTERSPORT is the market leader in Slovenia and is among the top three sporting goods retailers in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. It also operates through franchise partners in Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, and North Macedonia. The integration of the INTERSPORT Slovenia Group will be completed under the umbrella of INTERSPORT Austria GmbH, with local management teams remaining in place.
Tom Foley, CEO of INTERSPORT International Corporation, welcomes the move, stating that it marks a significant step forward and will boost the expansion of the INTERSPORT brand in a dynamic market environment.
The completion of the acquisition is subject to approval by relevant antitrust authorities. The purchase price remains confidential.
