Improving Assistance for Families of Children with Life-Limiting Illnesses in Greater Manchester

Kentown Support, a UK-based organization dedicated to improving community palliative care for children and families, has recently announced a new partnership with Gaddum, a mental health and carers’ charity based in Greater Manchester. This collaboration aims to enhance services for families of babies, children, and young people living with life-limiting conditions across the region.

Through Kentown Support’s community-focused palliative and end-of-life care model, Gaddum will provide a comprehensive programme of therapeutic counselling to parents, siblings, and wider family members through its Palliative and End-of-Life Therapy Service. This partnership will also offer age-appropriate interventions for siblings, wellbeing sessions for Kentown’s Children’s Palliative Care Community Nurse Specialists, and improved access to emotional support in all ten Greater Manchester boroughs.

Dr. Helena Dunbar, CEO of Kentown Support, shared her vision for the organization, stating, “Our goal at Kentown Support is to ensure that every child and family living with a life-limiting condition can access community-based palliative care. With the support of our partners, our Kentown Model brings together nursing, practical, and emotional support to provide seamless, compassionate care close to home.”

Both Kentown Support and Gaddum are committed to ensuring that families receive equitable, specialist care whenever and wherever they need it most. This partnership will further advance their mission to provide sustainable, high-quality community-based children’s palliative care teams and support and collaborate with healthcare professionals, local services, and community partners.
