Gift of nature: at-home care provider brings the beauty of flowers and fields to families

Local Care Service Honors Deceased Patients with Unique Tribute

Tuesday 4 November, 2025 – A Nottinghamshire-based at-home care service has found a touching and meaningful way to honor their recently deceased patients. National charity Heal Rewilding was approached by Right At Home, a local care service, with a special request to commemorate one of their elderly patients. Instead of the traditional bouquet of flowers, Right At Home wanted to honor the memory of their patient by sponsoring a square of land to be rewilded by Heal Somerset, a restoration project by Heal Rewilding.

Moved by this heartwarming gesture, Heal Rewilding hopes that more people will consider this alternative way of paying tribute to their loved ones. The sponsored square of land becomes a part of Heal Somerset, where land is being rewilded to support nature recovery. Families are welcome to visit the site and find solace in the vibrant sights and sounds of returning wildlife.

With their Heal 3×3 sponsorship scheme, individuals and organizations can sponsor a 3m x 3m square of land within the publicly accessible areas of Heal Somerset. For a donation of £20 per square, Heal Rewilding restores the land through rewilding, helping wildlife return and ecosystems regenerate. This simple yet powerful act allows people to support nature while marking significant moments in life.

This is not the first time that Heal 3×3 has been chosen as a heartfelt gift. The sponsored squares have been given to celebrate birthdays, weddings, and even naming ceremonies, showcasing the versatility of the scheme in marking beginnings, milestones, and endings.

Anne Downey, from Right At Home, shared their motivation behind this gesture, “We wanted to offer families something more meaningful than flowers – something that lasts, grows, and gives back. Sponsoring a piece of land through Heal allows us to honor each person’s memory in a way that reflects both care and hope for the future.”

Jan Stannard, co-founder of Heal Rewilding, expressed her gratitude for being a part of this poignant tribute, “Grief is deeply personal, and this gift of land sponsorship offers a gentle, enduring way for the families who have used the Right At Home service in Nottinghamshire to remember loved ones while contributing to the healing of our natural world. We are honored that Heal 3×3 can play a role in both personal remembrance and ecological renewal.”
