The British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) is offering a complimentary online masterclass, Ayurveda for Sleep, led by Ayurvedic expert and BWY Teacher Trainer Tarik Dervish. The session will be held on Wednesday 8 July from 5-6.15pm.
The masterclass aims to delve into the reasons behind the widespread issue of poor sleep and provide practical solutions through the principles of Ayurveda, an ancient traditional system of medicine from India.
According to recent UK research, many adults struggle with sleep disorders and unrefreshing sleep, with a large number sleeping less than seven hours a night.
Tarik Dervish, who will be leading the masterclass, explains, “In Ayurveda, sleep is not treated in isolation. It is understood as part of a larger picture: one that includes daily rhythm, diet, environment, stress, and our relationship with nature.”
Ayurveda places a strong emphasis on natural cycles and circadian rhythms, as well as the times of day, foods, and lifestyle choices that support balance in the body and mind.
The Ayurveda for Sleep masterclass will introduce this framework and provide practical recommendations, including herbs, remedies, and simple evening routines that can be easily incorporated into daily life.
Tarik Dervish highlights the importance of reconnecting with nature and our bodies to achieve better sleep. “We’ve become disconnected from what is natural. We don’t see the sun enough. We rarely feel the wind on our skin or the earth under our feet. Ayurveda reminds us that nature wants to nourish us – if we allow ourselves to be held by it.”
He hopes that through the masterclass, participants will not only improve their sleep but also reconnect with their roots and find contentment in rebuilding relationships with people, their surroundings, and the Earth.
The Ayurveda for Sleep masterclass is open to everyone and completely free of charge. To secure a spot and learn more about the event, visit https://portal.bwy.org.uk/user/events/1172.
