FoamTech Achieves Top European Fire Safety Rating as Demand for Compliant Interior Materials Rises

/FoamTech Achieves Key Fire Safety Classifications for Melamine Foam Products

– FoamTech’s melamine foam meets EN 13501-1 Class B-s1, d0 fire rating standards.
– The company adheres to rigorous quality management systems including IATF 16949 and AS9100D.
– FoamTech supplies rail interior materials per EN 45545 standards, tailored to specific project specifications.
– The carbon footprint of their melamine foam has been verified by TÜV SÜD to ISO 14067:2018.

FoamTech (Zhejiang) New Materials Co., Ltd., based in Yiwu, China, has announced that its melamine foam products comply with the European construction fire classification EN 13501-1 Class B-s1, d0. This classification is significant as it affects the material’s application in construction throughout the European Union and the UK.

EN 13501-1 embodies a reaction-to-fire classification standard with three crucial components: the B classification indicates a limited contribution to fire spread, s1 signifies the lowest smoke-production rating, and d0 reflects the absence of flaming droplets. These factors are particularly vital for enclosed interior environments where risks of fire propagation must be minimized. In the Chinese market, the same classification corresponds to GB 8624 B1 (B-s1, d0).

The remarkable fire performance of FoamTech’s melamine foam stems from the intrinsic nitrogen content of the melamine resin used, rather than from any halogenated flame-retardant additives. This characteristic is integral to the foam’s composition, ensuring consistent fire safety regardless of the processing methods used.

“Our customers in Europe rarely ask for a single data-sheet number,” said Kiko Fan, Overseas Manager at FoamTech. “They ask which classification a product holds, who tested it, and whether the same result applies to the thickness and density they are actually specifying. So we publish the classification and the test method together, and we keep the underlying reports available to specifiers.”

In addition to its focus on construction standards, FoamTech operates under several other prestigious quality management certifications, including IATF 16949 for automotive suppliers, AS9100D for aerospace, alongside ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. This quality framework ensures that all production processes maintain stringent controls, facilitating materials suitable for use across diverse applications, including HVAC systems and acoustic treatments.

When it comes to rail interiors, FoamTech adopts a tailored approach, supplying materials specifically to meet individual project specifications in compliance with EN 45545, the European fire safety standard for railway vehicles. For projects involving rolling stock manufactured by CRRC, compliance is aligned with the hazard levels specified by the vehicle programmes, thereby ensuring safety in various operational contexts.

The company possesses a comprehensive repository of independent test evidence that includes various certifications and ratings, such as UL 94 V-0 and ASTM E84 Class A for fire safety, as well as evidence for compliance with RoHS and REACH standards.

In an important environmental development, the carbon footprint of FoamTech’s melamine foam has been verified according to ISO 14067:2018 by TÜV SÜD. This verification is based on production data from October 2024 to September 2025, confirming an impressive carbon emissions figure of 86.18 kg CO2e per 2560 × 1300 × 430 mm block, encompassing both raw materials and manufacturing stages.

FoamTech is also actively involved in setting standards for the industry, participating in the drafting of national and industry standards in China, including those related to melamine foam cleaning and the testing methods for foam combustion behavior.

FoamTech (Zhejiang) New Materials Co., Ltd. has established itself as a leading manufacturer of melamine foam, producing various products such as blocks, sheets, acoustic panels, thermal insulation materials, hydrophobic grades, and cleaning sponges since its group operations began in 2014. The company boasts an impressive annual production capacity of 300,000 m³ of melamine foam.
