“Explore Scotland’s Majestic Landscapes on a Cycling Adventure in the Highlands”

Bike the UK for MS is proud to bring the quote by Ernest Hemingway to life, offering an unforgettable cycling experience through the Scottish Highlands. As Hemingway once said, “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best.” And that is exactly what we aim to do – to allow our riders to truly discover and appreciate the beauty of the UK.

The Scottish Highlands is a place that holds a special place in the memories of all our alumni. It serves as the grand finale of our 1000 mile Land’s End to John O’ Groats cycle ride and the highlight of the North Coast 500 cycle route. With its rugged coastlines, towering cliffs, and tranquil coves, the Highlands offer a unique and unforgettable cycling experience.

One of the highlights of cycling in the Highlands is the Wild Coast, where riders can discover hidden treasures along the coastline. While the Scottish coastline is often known for its rugged nature, it also offers peaceful and secluded coves and beaches that serve as a refuge from the busy modern world. These places also hold a rich history of sanctuary for those who have navigated the treacherous waters off the coast.

The Highlands also offer a sense of scale that cannot be replicated elsewhere in the UK. As riders make their way through the peaks and valleys, they are constantly greeted with new and breathtaking views. The towering peaks of the Isle of Skye, visible from the Applecross Pass, offer a sense of awe and mystery that can only be experienced in person.

Aside from the surrounding landscapes, the Highlands also offer a unique cycling experience. The winding roads and absence of traffic allow riders to truly appreciate the terrain and challenges that come with cycling. One of the most memorable routes is the Wee Mad Road, which takes riders on a rollercoaster ride from the peak of the Kylesku Bridge.

But the beauty of the Highlands is not just limited to what is on the surface. Riders may also be treated to stunning sunsets, starry night skies, and even the occasional aurora borealis. The ever-changing weather and atmospheric conditions add an element of surprise and excitement to the journey.

Despite the vastness of the Highlands, there is still a thriving ecosystem of wildlife that can be spotted while cycling. From salmon leaping in the Falls of Shin to seals bobbing in the sea, there is always something new to discover. Highland cows, deer, and various seabirds are also often seen along the way, making for a truly memorable experience.

Join us on our upcoming Land’s End to John O’ Groats cycle in July 2024 or our North Coast 500 cycle in August. Our experienced route leaders will guide you through the best of what the Highlands has to offer, while our team of riders will make sure you have a memorable experience. Not only will you have a once-in-a-lifetime cycling adventure, but you will also be supporting a great cause and helping those living with multiple sclerosis.
