Ewals Cargo Care Advances Towards Eco-Friendly Logistics with Volvo Electric Truck Trial

Last Updated on: 28th November 2023, 09:49 am

In a significant step towards sustainable logistics, Ewals Cargo Care has begun trialling the Volvo Electric Truck, exploring the inclusion of electric vehicles in its vast fleet of 685 trucks. This trial marks a pivotal moment in the company’s journey towards adopting alternative fuels and reducing its environmental impact.

While the existing fleet comprises low-emission diesel trucks compliant with the Euro VI standards, the environmental advantages offered by electric vehicles make them an attractive option for further exploration.

The trial, conducted in the UK near the northern trucking port close to Immingham and the Port of Humber, provides a practical test of this innovative technology.

Electrification for a Sustainable Future According to the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), “BATTERY ELECTRIC TRUCKS EMIT 63% LESS GHG EMISSIONS THAN DIESEL – 06/04/23.” The study highlights that electric 40-tonne tractor-trailers have significantly lower emissions compared to their diesel counterparts, with further reductions possible as the grid decarbonises.

For Ewals Cargo Care’s clients, the switch to electric vehicles could lead to a notable decrease in supply chain CO2 emissions, aiding in reducing their overall carbon footprint. For Ewals Cargo Care, these emission reductions are in line with its sustainability goals and decarbonisation efforts.

Volvo Trucks: A Strategic Partner in Electrification

Ewals Cargo Care selected Volvo Trucks for this trial, testing the Volvo FM Electric’s capabilities. As per the Volvo Brochure ‘Switch To Electric’, “The Volvo FM Electric can carry large volumes of food, consumer goods and industrial supplies with speed and comfort between logistics hubs and cities. Range: Up to 300km. Continuous power: Up to 490kW. Gross combined weight: Up to 42 t.”
