Age Concern Hampshire recently hosted a dedication ceremony at the Lockswood Care and Wellbeing Centre in Locks Heath to honor the life and legacy of the late Dr Colin Godber OBE. The ceremony, which took place on October 2nd, was attended by members of his family, trustees, the local mayor, and invited guests.
Dr Godber, a consultant in old age psychiatry in Hampshire for over three decades, was known for his clinical expertise and his dedication to patient care. He was also a pioneer in community-based services and mentored a generation of practitioners. After retiring from the NHS, he continued to serve older people by volunteering as a board member for Age Concern Hampshire.
Helen Callen, Chair of the Board of Directors at Age Concern Hampshire, spoke highly of Dr Godber’s dedication, stating, “Colin’s lifelong commitment to improving the lives of older people was evident in all he did. He gave his time, knowledge, and heart to this organization and the wider community.” In honor of his legacy, the Lockswood Care and Wellbeing Centre was officially dedicated in his memory, with a commemorative plaque unveiled during the ceremony.
The event included reflections from colleagues, trustees, and family members, highlighting not only Dr Godber’s professional achievements but also his kindness and dedication throughout his life.
