As the holy month of Ramadan draws near, the Global Rahmah Foundation (GRF) has launched a worldwide initiative to distribute dates to refugee families, enabling them to participate in the traditional practice of breaking their fast with a date.
The Islamic tradition of opening fasts with a date is one that holds great significance for Muslims. Last year, GRF successfully distributed dates to Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, allowing them to observe this tradition during Ramadan. This year, the charity aims to reach even more families in need.
According to GRF, “With Ramadan approaching, our focus remains on ensuring families have food to keep and break their fasts with. However, we also recognise the desire families have to fulfil Islamic traditions, especially those living through conflict or poverty who don’t always receive the opportunity or have the resources to do so.”
The charity firmly believes that every family, regardless of their circumstances, should be able to open their fasts with dates. In line with their mission to support those in need, GRF is distributing dates to refugee families in various locations.
For those who wish to contribute to this cause, GRF has set up a donation page where individuals can donate a date box to a refugee family in need: https://grfuk.org/islamic-giving/donate-a-date-box/
In addition to this initiative, the charity is also available to comment on various Ramadan-related and humanitarian aid-focused topics.
