Brits Prioritise Home Upgrades Before Jetting Off in 2025, Survey Finds

While holidays remain top of the list for many Brits this year, new research suggests home improvements are also receiving significant attention before people pack their bags.

According to new figures from Statista, UK households are investing in their homes alongside planning their 2025 getaways. The infographic, titled Miles Before Meals, highlights that global discretionary spending is largely going towards travel—but Brits, along with residents in the US, Germany, China and India, are also channelling funds into home improvements.

In fact, home upgrades ranked fourth overall in spending priorities, beating categories such as fashion, beauty, and wellness. It’s a clear indication that while Brits may be dreaming of distant shores, many are making sure their homes are in order first.

From sealing draughty windows to fixing squeaky doors, the desire to create a more comfortable living space is still very much alive.

Colin Greenslade, who runs the nationwide company Colin’s Sash Windows, believes it’s a mindset that makes perfect sense. “People want to enjoy their time away, sure — but they also want to come home to somewhere that’s warm and not costing a fortune to heat,” he said.

“We’ve had customers telling us they’re upgrading before their holidays, just so they’re not dreading the energy bills when they get back.”

With energy prices still a hot topic, and homes responsible for a big chunk of heat loss through old windows and doors, homeowners are still thinking about ways to cut down on waste and make their spaces more efficient.

Colin added: “While the beach might be calling, many are making sure their own front doors are in good shape before they go because no one wants to come back from a relaxing break only to be hit with a cold house and a warm gas bill.”
