UK charity STAND has announced its latest initiative, the “Legs on Tour 2026” appeal, with the goal of providing access to prosthetic legs for amputees in sub-Saharan Africa. This ambitious country-wide tour will collect and refurbish high-quality leg components from prosthetic centers across the UK and ship them to clinics in Africa.
According to STAND founder Tom Williams OBE, up to 95% of amputees in low-income countries do not have access to prosthetic legs, while perfectly usable legs are often discarded in the UK and other countries. This lack of mobility can have a devastating impact on amputees, preventing them from being able to work or attend school and trapping them in a cycle of poverty.
To help make this tour a success, STAND is asking for the public’s support in raising £20,000. The first £2,000 in donations will be matched by leading prosthetics manufacturer Blatchford, effectively doubling the impact of any contributions. These funds will not only cover the costs of the tour and leg collection, but also provide essential care to help amputees walk again.
STAND has been working for 12 years to provide prosthetic legs to those in need in sub-Saharan Africa, and has already helped thousands of people regain their mobility.
