The UK Cyber Security Council, an independent organization funded by the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology (DSIT), has a primary mission to establish a pathway for professional registration for individuals and provide a platform for Government, Public sector, Industry Regulators, CNI, and commercial organizations to select qualified professionals. The Council and its members are actively working to develop nationally recognized standards across all cybersecurity specialisms, in line with the UK Government’s National Cyber Security Strategy. These efforts aim to enhance online safety for UK citizens in their personal and professional lives.

The Professional Standards Working Group has been created to develop and uphold these professional standards. This working group plays a crucial role in contributing industry knowledge, fostering innovation, and promoting thought leadership by:

  1. Expanding community participation within the cybersecurity profession.
  2. Shaping recommendations based on pilot programs.

  4. Collaborating with core council working groups.
  5. Defining professional titles.

Andy brings 38 years of experience in Central Government, International Government, and commercial consultancy, holding various roles in Cyber and Information Security, Intelligence, technical operations, crisis management, and complex project and program delivery. His wealth of expertise has provided him with a deep understanding of risk.

Expressing his thoughts on the appointment, Andy stated, “Cyber Security presents many challenges as society embraces the technological transformation that impacts every aspect of life. As Chair of the PSWG, I am delighted to work with the UKCSC and industry colleagues who possess an in-depth understanding of the challenges and the professional standards required both now and in the future.”
