A EMDA’S PRESIDENCY NOW HELD BY MANIELE TASCA, EUROPE’S TOP TRADE ALLIANCE

Maniele Tasca, a 56-year-old top executive from Italy, has been appointed as the new President of the European Marketing Distribution (EMD) Board of Directors. This news was announced during the EMD Shareholder’s Meeting in Amsterdam on Friday, June 27, 2025.

Tasca is a member of the Management Board of ESD Italia and the Managing Director of the Italian Selex Group. He is widely recognized as the driving force behind ESD Italia, a purchasing and marketing alliance that was founded in 2001. The group includes retailers Selex, Acqua e Sapone, Agorà, and Aspiag, with a total of 5,990 sales outlets and a market share of 24.6% in Italy.

Tasca takes over the role of President from Johan Neuman, who served as President of EMD for the past four years. In his new position, Tasca expressed his gratitude to Neuman for his outstanding leadership and outlined the challenges that EMD is set to face in the coming years.

“Our platform will continue to offer suppliers and partners in the industry first-class opportunities to expand their business with our strong EMD members,” said Tasca. He also mentioned the increasing number of partner suppliers, which reflects the interest in EMD’s business model.

Tasca had previously served as EMD President from mid-2017 to summer 2021.

In addition to the appointment of Tasca as the new President, Stephanie Lotter, the Director at Globus in Germany, was also elected to the EMD Executive Board. Lotter, who has been with Globus since March 2022, holds a senior position as the Managing Director for Purchasing, Assortment Management, Marketing, and Private Labels.

Lotter’s appointment was met with a resounding endorsement from the EMD Delegates, securing her position as a key member of the EMD Board of Directors. Alongside Lotter, Franz-Friedrich Müller from Markant, José Maria Rodriguez from Euromadi Iberica, Boudewijn van den Brand, and Johan Neuman from Dagab were also confirmed as EMD board members for the next two years.

EMD, headquartered in Pfäffikon, Switzerland, has been recognized in the consumer goods industry as an efficient and powerful partner for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) since 1989. The organization develops and procures highly efficient and sustainably produced private label concepts for the benefit of consumers. EMD also supports and realizes global partnerships in the area of on-top agreements with the largest brand manufacturers.

Including the associate member Lotte from South Korea, the EMD member companies in Europe and Asia currently represent an external retail consumer turnover of approximately 200 billion euros in 16 countries.
