Global Action to Transform Lives All Around the World

The International Confederation of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) presented its Annual Report on December 5th in Rio de Janeiro, showcasing the global reach of its social action in 155 countries. The report detailed the impact of 18,000 projects and 5,000 special programs, which have served 30 million people with a social investment of 1,650,000,000 euros.

The event, attended by representatives from every continent, highlighted the organization’s growth in initiatives and response to new social realities.

During his speech, Marcio Da Silva, President of the National Council of Brazil, welcomed attendees and introduced a video showcasing the organization’s work in the country.

Wellington Dias, Minister for Development and Social Assistance, Family and the Fight against Hunger, emphasized the importance of working together to lift people out of poverty and provide them with education, skills, and opportunities. He also conveyed gratitude on behalf of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for the SSVP’s work in a world marked by inequality.

Juan Manuel Buergo Gómez, International President General, presented the main content of the 2024 Report, highlighting the human value inherent in the Society’s actions. He also announced the launch of the Global SSVP Foundation, a fundraising tool for cooperation projects, development aid, and emergency actions.

The event also featured a video highlighting the MAPFRE Foundation Social Awards, which recognized the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul as the best international social organization for its entire history.

Representatives from each continent offered their perspective on the Society’s work in their respective territories, in line with the data provided in the report.

The International President General emphasized the main indicators from 2024, including the presence of SSVP in 155 countries, with 1,500,000 volunteers and 800,000 members committed to carrying out 18,000 social projects and 5,000 special initiatives. In total, 30 million people were supported with a social investment of 1,650,000,000 euros.

The event also showcased a selection of initiatives mentioned in the Report, demonstrating how the organization adapts its actions to the realities in each territory.

In the United States, the network of charity pharmacies ensures access to medication for thousands of uninsured individuals. In addition, the Society is part of the Famvin Homeless Alliance and collaborates on the “13 Homes” Campaign, which provides solutions for the homeless through social housing, shelters, and rehabilitation projects.

In Brazil, the Solidarity Mobile Hygiene Units provide toilets and showers, along with support and care for those living on the streets.

The Conferences in Peru offer food and guidance to families in need, while in Sri Lanka, the construction and renovation of hygiene facilities have improved living conditions for several communities.

In Europe, national meetings were organized in France, emphasizing the importance of human bonding as the core of Vincentian service.

These initiatives, along with thousands of projects developed around the world, demonstrate the Society’s ability to provide specific, adapted, and friendly solutions while maintaining person-to-person support at the core of its global mission.
