For business owners seeking practical insights, Perry Burns’ new book promises to be a game-changer. Unlike many titles focused on corporate giants, this one speaks directly to the realities of SMEs and entrepreneurs navigating today’s competitive landscape.
Set for release on 1st September 2025, “101 Things I Wish I Had Known Before I Started My Business” has already been described as a “first-aid kit” for business leaders. Drawing upon 50 years of entrepreneurial experience, Perry delivers advice, anecdotes, and “war stories” that reflect the everyday challenges of running a business — insights equally valuable to larger organisations.
Publication wasn’t without drama. A miscommunication with the publisher resulted in the wrong file being printed, leaving a few typos in the first edition. Perry addresses this with good humour, introducing his SAFETY process (see page 203), joking:
“Readers of the first edition have been the lucky recipients of the ‘E’ & ‘T’ parts of the process.”
Despite the hiccup, Perry assures readers that all significant issues have been resolved and invites them to flag any remaining errors:
“It’s all part of the entrepreneurial journey,” he adds with a smile.
The book spans a comprehensive range of topics — including finance, leadership, AI, and SEO — while balancing practical strategies with humour and creativity. Featuring checklists, cartoons, and QR codes linking to additional tools, it is designed as an interactive resource. Perry also invites entrepreneurs to submit their own “war stories” for potential inclusion in the next edition.
Perry’s career began selling cash registers door-to-door before moving into retail-focused technology and software. Over the years, he has worked across diverse industries including finance, professional services, and electric motorbikes. Appointed to his first board role in 1985, he later served on boards such as UK Finance and the Motorcycle Industry Association. Today, he continues to champion innovation, strategic planning, and communication as foundations for business growth in a tech-driven economy.
