WRAP Textiles 2030 Welcomes MYGroup, Solidifying Dominance in Textiles Recycling

MYGroup, a leading textile company, has announced its participation in the Textiles 2030 initiative, becoming a signatory to the Waste and Resources Action Programme’s (WRAP) program. This move further solidifies the company’s commitment to promoting a circular textile economy in the UK.

The Textiles 2030 initiative, launched by WRAP and co-funded by the UK Government’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, aims to reduce the environmental impact of textiles. As a signatory, MYGroup joins over 130 other companies committed to achieving targets by the end of the decade, including reducing the carbon footprint of new textile products by 50% and reducing water usage by 30%.

MYGroup, with its extensive experience and resources, will play a crucial role in shaping the circular textiles roadmap for the UK. This comes after the company’s recent opening of a sustainable textile factory in Hull.

The company’s ‘ReFactory’ team, based at the Hull factory, has successfully launched two end-to-end recycled textile accessory ranges, ‘Post-E’ and ‘FestivalWorks.’ These ranges feature bags made from iconic red textiles recovered from the British postal service and festival- and rave-inspired items made from reclaimed industrial-grade personal protective equipment (PPE).

In addition to joining Textiles 2030, MYGroup will also collaborate with the UK Government, leading companies, charities, and academic institutions on various initiatives and policy working groups.

Steve Carrie, Group Director of MYGroup, expressed his excitement about joining Textiles 2030, stating, “Joining Textiles 2030 amplifies our influence in reshaping the textile industry towards sustainability.” He further emphasized the company’s position as a leader in textiles recycling and its commitment to driving the future of circularity in the industry.

Sophie Scanlon, Textiles Sector Specialist at WRAP, also commended MYGroup’s participation in the initiative, stating, “WRAP are thrilled to welcome MYGroup to our Textiles 2030 Voluntary Agreement.” She further stressed the importance of working with solution providers and innovators to divert valuable textiles away from landfills and towards reuse and recycling.

MYGroup has a strong track record in transforming waste into valuable resources and reducing landfill and incineration volumes. The company has recently collaborated with leading UK brands such as Boots, Johnson & Johnson, and Harrods.
