CleanupUK, a national environmental charity, has launched a new campaign aimed at encouraging individuals and groups to protect wildlife, strengthen communities, and enjoy the outdoors this summer. The “Love Nature, Pick Litter” campaign, which will run throughout the summer holidays, urges people of all ages to take action and make a lasting difference by organizing or participating in litter-picking activities in their local areas.
According to CleanupUK, millions of pieces of litter end up in parks, streets, rivers, and countryside each year, posing a threat to wildlife, polluting waterways, and spoiling the places where communities live, work, and play. The charity believes that small actions, when done collectively, can have a significant impact.
CleanupUK works in some of the UK’s most disadvantaged communities, helping residents improve their local environment while also building confidence, developing new skills, and fostering a sense of community through practical environmental action.
The Love Nature, Pick Litter campaign is not only about collecting rubbish but also about inspiring people to care for their local environment and showing how small actions can make a big difference. Sarah Hayes, Head of Operations at CleanupUK, stated, “Picking up litter is one of the simplest ways anyone can make a real difference. It protects wildlife, keeps plastic out of our rivers and seas, and brings people together with a shared sense of pride in where they live.”
Participants can download free activity resources, organize their own litter-picking events, or borrow litter-picking equipment from one of CleanupUK’s nationwide network of Cleanup Hubs. Families can also enjoy a range of free nature-themed activities designed to help children learn about wildlife, pollution, and protecting the environment while having fun outdoors.
CleanupUK hopes to engage thousands of people across the UK during the school holidays, with participants sharing their photos and inspiring others to join the movement for cleaner, greener communities. To get involved, individuals can organize a litter-pick with friends, neighbors, or colleagues, borrow free litter-picking equipment from a Cleanup Hub, download campaign resources and family activities, and share their litter-pick using #LoveNaturePickLitter to enter a prize draw.
