UK Charity Provides Safe Home for Kenyan Children
A UK charity, the TLC Children’s Trust, is making a difference in the lives of 56 Kenyan children by providing them with a safe home and keeping them off the streets.
The Home of Peace Children’s Home, located in rural Kenya, was built on a simple promise to provide a safe and stable environment for children who have been placed there by the court. Most of these children arrived with nothing, some even coming from life on the streets. According to the charity, without their support, many of these children would not have survived much longer.
The TLC Children’s Trust is a registered charity in the UK under registration number 1156786. Its sole purpose is to relieve the needs of orphans and other underprivileged children and young people in Kenya. This includes providing funds for food, clothing, accommodation, education and medical care.
The Home of Peace is registered with the Kenyan government and is regularly inspected by the Department of Children’s Services. Children are not self-referred or informally admitted, they arrive through the Children’s Court and their placement is regularly reviewed. This ensures a structured and legally accountable arrangement for both the home and the charity overseeing operations from the UK.
One of the unique aspects of this charity is that 100% of donations received go directly to the children’s home. The Trustees personally cover all administrative overhead costs, ensuring that all public donations go directly towards the care of the children.
The Home of Peace has a dedicated team of social workers, a qualified community nurse, a pastor, kitchen staff, dormitory staff, and security and grounds personnel. The children receive all necessary care, including accommodation, food, clothing, medical care, and education until the end of the calendar year in which they turn 18.
It is important to note that this is not just a holding facility for children. The Home of Peace is a place where children can truly grow and thrive. They stay for years, not weeks, and build relationships with staff. The charity also provides regular updates to donors through newsletters and other communications, ensuring transparency and accountability.
