Hamburg Prepares for UEFA EURO 2024 with Eye-Catching Container Installation

Hamburg, June 11, 2024 – The anticipation for UEFA EURO 2024 is building in Hamburg as the city gears up to host the highly anticipated football event. In celebration, a visually stunning container installation has been unveiled at the heart of Hamburg’s iconic harbour. The installation, located at O’Swaldkai, will be on display from now until June 18th and is sure to capture the attention of locals and visitors alike.

The installation features a container adorned with the official UEFA EURO 2024 logo, surrounded by 24 containers painted with the national flags of the participating countries. These containers are stacked in six towers, representing the 12 international matches being played on the first match day. The entire installation spans approximately 45 meters wide and 10 meters high, making it an impressive sight visible from the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg Plaza, HafenCity Hamburg, and even on harbour tours.

Managed by UNIKAI Lagerei- und Speditionsgesellschaft mbH, O’Swaldkai was chosen as the ideal location for this spectacle due to its bustling international trade and representation of Hamburg’s diversity. The Port of Hamburg is known as the “Gateway to the World” and is the perfect place to showcase the city’s marketing campaign for UEFA EURO 2024, themed “Hamburg. Great Things Start Here.” This installation, coinciding with the start of the tournament, highlights Hamburg as a premier destination for major sporting events.

Patrick Esume, Host City Ambassador for Hamburg, shares his excitement for the installation, stating, “The container installation in the heart of the city is an impressive representation of Hamburg’s creativity and love for football. We are proud to showcase to Europe and the world that Hamburg is a city where great things happen, both on and off the field.” As the Commissioner of the European League of Football and a celebrated American football legend in Hamburg, Esume adds, “For the knock-out phase, we’ve come up with something even bigger and more special.”

Hamburg is eagerly waiting to welcome the world for a memorable football festival. The city will host five matches at the Volksparkstadion, each expected to draw around 50,000 spectators. The excitement kicks off with Poland versus the Netherlands on June 16th, followed by Croatia versus Albania on June 19th, Georgia versus the Czech Republic on June 22nd, and the Czech Republic versus Turkey on June 26th. The action culminates with a thrilling quarter-final match on July 5th.
