RING Jewellers introduces ‘Tierra’, a pioneering diamond engagement ring setting a new benchmark for environmentally responsible luxury.
As sustainability continues to influence how consumers make purchasing decisions, the jewellery industry is entering a new era of conscious design. Brighton’s RING Jewellers has launched ‘Tierra’, a revolutionary diamond engagement ring crafted to redefine what ethical fine jewellery can represent.
In contrast to traditional diamond mining, which can involve the removal of around 250 tonnes of earth for just one carat and significant fossil fuel consumption, the diamond used in ‘Tierra’ is created in a laboratory using carbon extracted from the atmosphere itself. This process actively cleans the air rather than polluting it.
The diamond is made entirely using renewable energy, which renders it carbon negative. This marks a significant step forward for environmentally responsible gemstone production in the luxury market.
Gold mining has long raised environmental concerns due to its links to chemical contamination and habitat destruction. To avoid contributing to these impacts, every ‘Tierra’ ring is crafted using 100% recycled gold, removing the need for further extraction and helping prevent associated pollution.
The ring’s production also drastically cuts transportation emissions. While conventional jewellery supply chains often span more than 16,000 miles, ‘Tierra’ is made entirely within the UK.
Designed in Brighton, its carbon-negative diamond is produced in the Cotswolds, and its recycled gold is refined and cast in Birmingham — resulting in a total journey of just over 300 miles, free from international freight or air travel.
To extend its environmental value even further, RING Jewellers will plant 100 trees for every ‘Tierra’ ring purchased, in partnership with global reforestation charity One Tree Planted, aiding the restoration of ecosystems and contributing to future carbon absorption.
The name ‘Tierra’, meaning Earth in Spanish, reflects the ring’s environmental purpose. The choice also honours regions such as South America, which have been significantly affected by deforestation.
With its carbon-negative diamond, recycled gold, local production and tree-planting initiative, ‘Tierra’ showcases a comprehensive approach to sustainable jewellery craftsmanship. Every aspect of the ring has been considered with environmental responsibility at its core.
“With Tierra, we wanted to prove that fine jewellery can be both stunning and sustainable,” said a spokesperson for RING Jewellers. “This ring represents our belief that luxury should not come at the expense of the planet.”
