Terra Firma Energy Unveils Wingrave Project: Advancing Transitional Fuel Solution

Last Updated on: 22nd November 2023, 07:08 am

Terra Firma Energy, a prominent independent power producer (IPP) in the UK, is thrilled to announce the acquisition of land and development rights for its groundbreaking Wingrave project. This transitional fuel power plant aims to deliver reliable and flexible electricity to the grid, further bolstering Terra Firma Energy’s diverse portfolio of power generation assets nationwide.

Following the successful completion of the St Helens project and reaching the significant 50% completion milestone of the Wrexham project, the Wingrave venture marks another strategic expansion for Terra Firma Energy.

Situated on Thistlebrook Farm, near Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard, the chosen site demonstrates Terra Firma Energy’s commitment to minimal environmental impact. Surrounded by farmland and solar power parks, it offers ideal conditions while being conveniently close to gas and grid connections. With a capacity of 50 megawatts, the project is projected to generate enough electricity to power over 25,000 homes annually for the next seven years through a power purchase agreement with EDF.

Distinguished by its hydrogen-compatible turbines, the Wingrave project addresses the mounting challenges faced by the UK energy market. With increasing volatility and vulnerability stemming from weather-dependent renewable power sources and the decommissioning of coal and nuclear plants, Terra Firma Energy’s gas-fired power plants provide a scalable and on-demand solution to balance the grid and ensure the country’s energy security. Moreover, the project will benefit from the soaring wholesale electricity prices, which have risen by a staggering 385% over the past three years.

William Davies, Managing Director of Terra Firma Energy, expresses his delight: “We are thrilled to unveil the Wingrave project as another significant milestone in our growth strategy. Our unwavering commitment lies in providing crucial flexible power generation to the UK grid while generating value for our shareholders and stakeholders. We have already commenced the development process, which will not only create job opportunities but also contribute to the economic well-being of the local community.”

The development of the Wingrave project is expected to span 18 months, with operations set to commence in the first quarter of 2025. Terra Firma Energy will work closely with local authorities and residents to ensure that the project adheres to all necessary planning and environmental requirements, fostering a harmonious relationship between the initiative and the community.
