Taicang Day Event Highlights Strong Cooperation Prospects Between China and Germany

Hamburg, Germany – The Taicang Day event was held on Thursday in the northern German city of Hamburg, showcasing the potential for continued win-win cooperation between China and Germany.

Located near Shanghai, Taicang is known as the “hometown of German enterprises” in China, with over 530 German companies operating in the area. The event was attended by nearly 200 representatives from Chinese and German business sectors, as well as leaders of German companies and project stakeholders.

Zhai Qian, minister of economic and commercial affairs at the Chinese Embassy in Germany, emphasized the mutually beneficial nature of China-Germany economic and trade cooperation, stating that the Taicang story is a perfect example of this.

He also highlighted the potential for expanding cooperation in emerging fields such as scientific and technological innovation, green and low-carbon development, clean energy, the circular economy, and the digital economy.

Michael Schumann, chairman of the Board of the German Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade, praised the strong partnerships that German companies have found in Taicang.

“Whether in industrial manufacturing, the automotive sector, environmental technology, or renewable energy, the potential for mutual benefit is immense,” he said. “This cooperation not only fosters job creation and economic growth in both countries but also drives technological advancements and innovations that are crucial in addressing the global challenges of our time.”

Kersten Janik, president of VAST LLC, spoke highly of Taicang’s potential for tapping into the Chinese auto market. “We are in Taicang because we believe it offers the best opportunities for us to tap into the Chinese auto market,” he said.

Having worked in China since 1990, Janik also expressed his appreciation for the country’s tremendous development in industry and society, stating that China is a perfect partner for Germany.
