Hampshire Charity Shines Light on Challenges Faced by Family Caregivers During National Family Caregivers Month
Hampshire, UK – As National Family Caregivers Month approaches, Age Concern Hampshire is bringing attention to the tireless efforts and difficulties faced by the thousands of caregivers in Hampshire who provide unpaid care for loved ones living with dementia. With over 25,000 unpaid caregivers in the county, many are juggling multiple responsibilities while managing the emotional and physical strain of caring for a family member.
The demands of caregiving can be overwhelming, and navigating the support available can be complex. Often, families are not aware of financial options that could alleviate some of the burden, such as Local Authority support and Attendance Allowance. The application process can also be time-consuming and confusing, leaving caregivers without the assistance they deserve.
To address these challenges, Age Concern Hampshire’s Information Service team is offering guidance, support, and practical help with applications to ensure caregivers do not miss out on valuable financial support that can significantly improve their daily lives. Additionally, the charity provides essential respite through its Care and Wellbeing Centres in Dibden, New Milton, Locks Heath, and Yateley. These centres offer specialized day care for individuals with dementia, including stimulating activities and social engagement, with optional transport and lunch provided. Caregivers can take advantage of this respite to focus on their own well-being while knowing their loved ones are in a safe and friendly environment.
Hannah Park, Head of Operations at Age Concern Hampshire, stated, “Family caregivers in Hampshire make tremendous sacrifices, often without recognition. Between the emotional toll and navigating complex support systems, it is crucial that they have access to guidance and practical assistance. Our team is here to simplify this process and provide much-needed respite so that caregivers can recharge.”
