Community Summer Supper Returns to Railway Gardens in Splott, Cardiff
The much-anticipated annual tradition of the Community Summer Supper is back at Railway Gardens in Splott, Cardiff. This free, family-friendly event will take place on Friday, July 10 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm and promises to be a joyful celebration of connection, creativity, and community.
Hosted by Green Squirrel, the Cardiff-based social enterprise that has stewarded the Gardens since its launch in 2022, the Summer Supper invites neighbours and friends to come together for an evening of food, music, and local talent in the vibrant surroundings of Railway Gardens.
Last year’s event drew more than double the expected number of attendees, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere as local residents shared dishes, stories, and new friendships. This year’s event promises to bring the same warm and friendly energy, along with a brand-new Community Talent Show that will showcase the creativity, skills, and hidden talents of the local community.
Hannah Garcia, a director of Green Squirrel, stated, “All communities deserve a space to come together, eat together, and get to know one another. Thanks to our fantastic volunteer team, we are able to create a space where we hope everyone feels welcome and able to make new friends or get to know their neighbours.”
The evening will offer a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere, with games and activities for all ages, a shared plant-based picnic, and live entertainment from local residents who will take to the stage. Guests are encouraged to bring a cold vegetarian or vegan dish to share if they are able to.
Railway Gardens, which opened in 2022 after eight years of grassroots campaigning and community visioning, has become a vital community hub offering opportunities for food growing, learning, creativity, wellbeing, and enterprise. The site is home to small business units, a community kitchen, multiple hire spaces, a resident café, and numerous volunteer and social opportunities.
Green Squirrel invites everyone, whether long-standing locals or first-time visitors, to join the Summer Supper and be part of this joyful and grassroots celebration of community.
