New Employment Service Opens to Support Mental Health in Mid Essex

Braintree, 8 April 2024 – A new employment service is opening its doors today, offering individuals accessing the Mid Essex Talking Therapy service the opportunity to work with an employment advisor.

This innovative service aims to bring together therapists and employment advisors to assist individuals with common mental health problems such as stress, anxiety, and depression to find, maintain, or return to work.

The service is open to anyone aged 16 and over and offers a range of support, including interview practice, access to training, and assistance in communicating with employers about mental health issues.

Coren Munday, Senior Employment Advisor, stated, “Having stable and fulfilling employment can have a positive impact on our mental health, providing us with a sense of purpose and structure in our daily lives. Our goal is to offer specialized support that is sensitive to how mental health challenges can affect individuals in the workplace or while seeking employment. We aim to equip individuals with the confidence and skills they need to achieve their goals.”

Kay Baker, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner for Mid Essex Talking Therapies, added, “We are delighted to provide free employment support to our service users in the Mid Essex area. This valuable addition to our Talking Therapy service aims to enhance the recovery of those struggling with common mental health problems. The benefits of finding and maintaining employment go far beyond financial rewards, as it can also provide individuals with a sense of accomplishment and help them develop new skills, leading to improved mental wellbeing.”

The service is commissioned by Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) and delivered by Mental Health Matters, who have successfully provided this service in Hertfordshire, helping over 870 people return to work or find new opportunities.
